As of March 2011: Work is ongoing producing a 1/4 scale model platform for use in
seas with waves up to 6m.
Design and fundraising are the currently underway. Crown Estates still have not
replied since the application was made in July 2010.
Achievements so far:
A CPA and FEPA consent application has been made to MFA for this prototype, and conditional
approval has been given.
Finished with the successful 1-15 sea trials in March 2010. Pictures and videos
of the tests can be seen above. A total of 4 trials were conducted. Different arrangements
of hulls and heave units were experimented with.
A Study on the Hydrogen production capability and specification has been completed
on the full size rig. The results are encouraging with payback periods of 10 years
on a prototype. With long production runs and upscale manufacturing techniques this
period should reduce dramatically. The next stage is to find realistic prices that
consumers would be willing to pay in order to work out a more accurate pay back period.
Fundraising for the 1/4 scale has been excellent. We have raised 125,000£ towards
the construction from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and are trying to raise
some more money after one investor dropped out. We did a mail shot to Wales top 300
companies, but there was not one positive response or word of encouragement. Further
fund raising via banks and Finance Wales were unsuccessful. Raising funds is ongoing.
West Coast Energy pulled out of their contract to submit for planning of a full scale
2MW. This will need to be completed in house
Planning for a 1/4 scale model platform has been submitted: see separate section.
Design of the 1/4 scale model platform has commenced for the 4th time taking into
consideration the lessons learnt form all the sea trials and the costs of fabrication.
The mast and crane of the 1/4 scale model have been designed and general arrangement
drawings created. Letters were written to prospective large fabrication companies.
One or two made the effort to reply. Other leads being chased.
A patent application has been made and awarded as of January 2010. Thanks to the
Welsh Assembly Government for their financial help with this.
Work was completed on a 1:10 scale model and this was launched the first week of
Tender for Hydrodynamic modelling - Cannot find anyone interested.
1:200 scale models for use to consider construction issues and Hand S have been completed,
1:100 Scale model wind tunnel and wave tanks studies completed, (2005).
Pre feasibility study with stake holders undertaken, (2003 - Present).
